EducationI am a senior at the University of Oregon in one of the countries top 10 math programs. I am taking a year off from school to work. I am currently working on my BS in Applied Mathematics with an emphasis in Linear Algebra and sports Statistics. Before college I attended Turlock High School where I finished in the top 1% of a 700+ student graduating class accumulating a 4.20+ GPA.
ExperienceI worked as a Peer Tutor at an on campus tutoring and mentoring service provider called Peer Connections in San Jose, CA. I tutored fellow San Jose State University students in math courses they were enrolled in as well as helped them learn to balance their time in a college environment. These courses included Discrete Math, Calculus I-III, Pre-Calculus, Geometry, Algebra, and below. I worked as an instructional student assistant for San Jose State University. My responsibilities included instructing required math workshops supplementary to the students’ math courses, ranging from algebra to calculus. Typically classrooms were filled with 20 to 30 university students. I worked as a mathematics grader for University of Oregon professors. I was responsible for grading students’ homework, quizzes, and other assignments according to certain standards set by each individual professor. Courses included: Discrete Math, Proofs, Business Calculus, Calculus I-III, Pre-Calculus, Several Variable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Theoretical Calculus, College Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics. I worked part-time as a mathematics tutor for student athletes at the University of Oregon. Courses included: Discrete Math, Proofs, Business Calculus, Calculus I-III, Pre-Calculus, Several Variable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Theoretical Calculus, College Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics.
HobbiesSome of my hobbies and interests include playing tennis, hiking, physical exercise, drawing, and honestly doing math! I grew up in Central California. I have always had a passion for math but more recently I have discovered my love for tutoring my peers. While peer tutoring has presented its own set of challenges, I have developed a greater understanding for the way a student learns and the patience it may take to assist them in reaching their academic goals. Tutoring works both ways and through the last four years of experience I have found myself learning more and becoming a better teacher.
